July 10 and 17: Step Into Summer with Cyanotype Shoes at Sewing Training Academy, Nashville, TN
Instructor, Lesley Patterson-Marx will guide you through the process of making your own pair of hand sewn espadrille shoes from fabric that you print yourself! You will create your fabric designs through a fascinating historical photographic process called cyanotype. Cyanotype, known for its rich blue color, is a process in which a chemical reaction with sunlight helps to create the impression of whatever is placed on its surface. On the first Saturday of the workshop, students will use lace, found objects, plants, and more to create the patterns on the surface of pre-treated cyanotype fabric. Later that day, students will be begin preparing their patterns and sewing the upper part of their shoes.
If you haven’t used STA’s industrial sewing machines, please arrive at 9:00am for a complimentary tutorial from Lesley. On the second day of the workshop, we’ll finish sewing, and will hand stitch the uppers to the soles. You’ll step out of class in a new pair of brilliant blue shoes! When you register, you will receive a list of supplies you will need to purchase ahead of the class. Start Date: Saturday, July 10 & 17, 2021, Rain date, July 24 (our first day will be spent outside)
