Sewing Repair Lab Two separate sessions will be offered September 28, and October 26, 3:30pm-5:45pm at Turnip Green Creative Reuse, Nashville, TN. Spend an afternoon of sewing or repairing the projects of your choice ! Sewing machines, scissors, thread, and other tools are provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own. You’ll benefit from guidance in working on repairs by hand or machine, hems, and simple alterations. You could also choose to learn to sew a pattern of your choice that matches your skill level. You'll be provided with help and a fun, supportive space for you to experience sewing in a community setting!
Introduction to SoulCollage® Two separate sessions will be offered October 2, and December 11, 10am-4pm at Art & Soul, Nashville, TN
Through a playful creative process, make your own cards that have the potential to connect you to self-discovery and provide personal guidance. Trained SoulCollage® facilitator Lesley Patterson-Marx will guide you in this expressive collage art practice wherein images and glue are transformed into your own deck of 5”x8” cards infused with personal meaning that can help you navigate life’s questions. You don’t have to be an artist to make these wonderful cards in this introduction to a process that is both powerful and a lot of fun.

SoulCollage® Guided Studio Separate sessions will be offered on October 5, November 2, and December 14, from 6-8:30 at Art & Soul, Nashville, TN
Pre-requisites: Complete “Introduction to SoulCollage®” workshop or other SoulCollage experience.
You’ve experienced the playful creative process of making your own cards for self-discovery and personal guidance. Now dive deeper into your SoulCollage® practice with trained SoulCollage® facilitator Lesley Patterson-Marx. Lesley will guide you into new card-making themes and learning topics based on the process at each guided studio as you make and share your cards in a supportive community.

Cloth Collage and Collecting: Making Books with Paper and Fabric October 16-22, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Gatlinburg, TN
Learn several different book structures that use hand and machine sewn fabric, paper, collage, and your personal collections in delightful and unexpected ways.
Miniature Matchbox Books November 5, 10am-4pm, at Watkins Community Education, Belmont University, Nashville, TN.
Matchboxes, and their potential for concealing and revealing miniature treasures, have captivated many of us since childhood. In this workshop, students will create tiny case-bound pamphlet-stitched books that fit perfectly inside an empty matchbox! Endless themes can be explored through embellishing your books with colorful papers, drawings, images or collage. Students can expect to make three or more of these tiny treasures during class, and leave knowing how to make more at home!
Book Arts for Beginners: Pamphlet Stitch and Accordion Books
November 12, 1-4pm, The Forge, Nashville, TN
Teaching artist, Lesley Patterson-Marx, will guide you in learning the basic skills to make your own books without paste or glue. Students will begin with learning the pamphlet stitch, and accordion book, and will conclude with a book called “The Hybrid Travel Journal,” that combines both pamphlet and accordion structures in a delightful way. All levels of experience are welcome in this beginner course.
The Fascinating Chinese Thread Book
February 2nd, 6-8pm and 3rd, 10-4pm, at Art & Soul, Nashville, TN
Learn the fascinating Chinese folk art tradition of “Zhen Xian Bao” or “Chinese Thread Book.” These amazing book-like structures open up to reveal a series of connected compartments perfect for concealing special collections and treasures. Traditionally, Chinese Thread Books were used by artisans to contain sewing supplies such as needles and scraps of cloth. Bring your own treasures for your book, and delight yourself with possibilities for incorporating colorful fabric, paper, collage, photographs, small objects, and hand stitching. All skill levels are welcome!
