Bird's Nest Protector Apron by Lesley Patterson-Marx
Bird's Nest Protector Apron
silk organza and vintage linen; marbled by the artist, archival inkjet print on organza, found bird’s eggs and nest
20"x24"
2020

Through walking outdoors daily, over the years I have collected many bird's eggs in the springtime. I see them on the sidewalk, or in the grass. It often takes mindful concentration to bring them home safely. I made this apron to protect and enshrine the fragile eggshells.
I created the design on the fabric through marbling on silk organza and a vintage linen tablecloth. The marbling was inspired by the colors of the bird’s eggs and the beautiful sky above. The pocket was made from a found piece of lace, whose maker remains a mystery.
